Elegance and refinement with a long and intense history: this is our Alta Langa Hundred Sixty Seven 2018. A sparkling wine with undeniable character, made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown on the hills of Castino, Borgomale, and Lequio Berria, and aged on the lees for at least 70 months.

It all began on June 17, 1858, when “a royal decree issued by the king’s delegate” to the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba officially recorded, “by injunction,” the registration of 138.82 giornate piemontesi (an old Piedmontese unit of land) into the private estate of Vittorio Emanuele II, who was then still King of Sardinia.
Like all beautiful things, Fontanafredda was born from a love story—the romance between Vittorio Emanuele II, who would later become the first King of Italy, and Rosa Vercellana. As a token of his affection, the King gifted her the land acquired in 1858, the very grounds where the winery still stands today.
Alongside the great Barolos, it was at Fontanafredda in 1959 that the precursor to Alta Langa was born—the first Piedmontese sparkling wine fermented in the bottle: Contessa Rosa Metodo Classico.
We have always been pioneers of great innovations and remain artisans to this day, yet with the scale of a major company and the desire to once again tell the story of the uniqueness of the land, of every single vineyard, celebrating the biodiversity of the Langhe and preserving its historical heritage—for 167 years now.

The sparkling wine celebrating our 167th anniversary is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes sourced from Castino, Borgomale, and Lequio Berria, and it spends at least 70 months aging on the lees.
To mark this special birthday, Alta Langa Hundred Sixty Seven 2018 features an original lithographic print of the Fontanafredda estate, which has been digitized and reproduced through white screen printing directly onto the glass, enhanced with gold leaf.
The print depicts the estate between 1900 and 1918, during one of its most glorious periods, at the height of its commercial expansion, employing 200 workers and home to more than 40 families in the village.

Thanks to the altitude of the vineyards in Castino, Borgomale, and Lequio Berria, ranging between 400 and 600 meters above sea level, the grapes mature slowly, developing very distinctive aromas.
The sparkling wine poured into the glass shows a golden yellow color with green reflections. The perlage is very fine and persistent.
The intensely complex aromas predominantly recall wildflower honey and notes of brioche, toasted dried fruit, and crusty bread. On the palate, the structure of Pinot Noir is evident.
The finish is long and persistent, with fresh and savory sensations.
Excellent as an aperitif, but above all—for its unmistakable personality—it is an outstanding choice to elegantly accompany every course.
